Ben Langmead is the founder and principal at InOrder Labs LLC. Dr. Langmead is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Johns Hopkins University. He earned a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Maryland. His group applies ideas from text indexing, statistics and parallel programming. He has released some of the most widely used software tools (e.g. Bowtie, Bowtie 2) addressing key computational problems in genomics. His academic work has been cited over 100,000 times according to Google Scholar. He is the recipient of a Genome Biology award, Sloan Research Fellowship, a National Science Foundation CAREER award and the Benjamin Franklin award for contributions to open access.
